The Church of Christ at Wisconsin Rapids

What Our Services Are Like

Because we believe that the church must follow bible doctrine (Acts 2:41-42; 2 Corinthians 11:3-4), we try to have a bible reason for everything we do.

Our services begin with an interactive bible class. We do this because we believe the bible contains the will of God and that studying it allows us to understand our Creator’s wishes for us. This is also why we include a scripture reading and why our sermons rely so heavily on bible passages.

2 Timothy 3:16-17:
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

At various points in our services, we sing psalms (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). Our singing is not accompanied by musical instruments because there is no mention of doing such by the church in the New Testament.

Also spread throughout our services, we pray together (Acts 1:14; Acts 12:5,12). In our prayers, we both give thanks to God and make requests of Him (Philippians 4:6) based on what is currently going on in our lives because that is what the bible examples show. Our prayers are offered in Jesus’ name because He is our Mediator to God the Father (John 14:13-14; John 16:25-27; Ephesians 2:18).

Each Sunday morning, we take the Lord’s Supper. We do this in remembrance of Jesus Christ and to proclaim the death (1 Corinthians 11:23-26) that He died on our behalf (1 Corinthians 15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:14-15).

Also each Sunday morning, we take a collection (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). The amount that each member gives is at his or her own discretion because the New Testament does not prescribe a set amount to give, though it does prescribe the attitude with which it should be given (2 Corinthians 9:7). We do not ask our visitors to participate in this.

Our services also include a sermon on Sunday mornings and a short lesson on Wednesday nights. Again, we do this to follow the bible pattern (Acts 20:7; 2 Timothy 4:2) and to help improve our understanding of God’s word.

We try to make sure that everything is done in an organized and orderly fashion (1 Corinthians 14:40).
